Success

The Dickens evening, was, as predicted, entertaining and enlightening; after these events I am almost ready to attempt to read Dickens again. Well Done to Lloyd and his team.
Interestingly, the next evening we travelled to Bristol for a fascinating recital by the well-known concert pianist Lucy Parham in which she was joined by the actors Joanna David and Henry Goodman (currently getting fine reviews for his role in "Fiddler on the Roof" in London )in which extracts from letters and diaries of Franz Liszt and his family, mistresses and others are interspersed with his music. Another entertaining and enlightening evening; what was particularly interesting to observe was that, as a proportion of seats available, Lloyd played to a fuller house than those luminaries !

Don't forget the A G M which unfortunately falls on Burns Night; Skean Dhus must be left at the Door.

Dickens of a failure

Oh, Lackaday, lackaday !
In my enthusiasm for the forthcoming Dickens evening I fear I gave the wrong date. It is of course, this Saturday 19th and not as quoted in my last effort.

My excuse is that dealing with 21st Century technology while describing a 19th Century event is very demanding for someone who lived in the 17th Century !

Anyway I look forward to seeing you all there.

Annual General Meeting

There are two important dates scheduled for the next week; as previously advised on the blog Lloyd is bringing a new Dickens evening this Friday 19th. I can't stress enough what a wonderful event the last one was and I do urge you all to put this one in your diary in big red letters.

The A G M may not be quite so exciting but is important; please make an effort to attend and participate in the running of your Society. Friday 25th January.

Look forward to fighting through the throng on both dates.

Educating Charlie

The next event is Lloyd Lee in his one-man-show about Charles Dickens. With new material lloyd once again shows us what he is capable of on the stage. It is an evening of sheer delight - not to be missed. Although unfortunately I shall be absent as my sister is having her 60th birthday bash on that evening, Saturday 19th January.
I believe the £6.00 entrance fee includes a glass of wine. The performance starts a 7.30 and is a full length evening of entertainment. Tickets on the door.

Twelfth Night Party

With three successful years under its belt the CADS Twelfth Night Party is now becoming a bit of a tradition. The last one, held on Sunday (January 6th) was a great success as we acted scenes from Dickens novels and enjoyed the scrumptious food contributed by the participants. Thanks go to Jim and Ber for hosting and also to Lloyd and Barbara for sorting out the scripts (and sound effects).

The picture is of the Galette des Rois - the frangipane tart (yes, I know it sounds like something out of Dickens but that's what it is) that is traditionally eaten on Twelfth Night. Inside was a token. Whoever finds is entitled to wear the crown and to be king for a day.

Annual General Meeting - date

Good evening - I know just how much we all look forward to the event of the year, namely the CADS Annual General Meeting, so I would like to place this date firmly in my diary for fear of missing it this year.
Perhaps some kind soul can remind me of the date, and, indeed, remind us all of just how important it is that all members come along and have a say in the running of CADS.
thanks.

Twelfth Night 2

Jim has put our phone number incorrectly - it is 772732. But, in any case, we shall be in Bristol from Friday evening until late Sunday afternoon so Lloyd is the better bet. You can ring my mobile 07976479257 or leave a message lon the landline.

Twelfth Night

On Twelfth Night - January 6th - next Sunday, there will be a party for any CADS Members, Patrons and friends at 81 Eastgate. The format will be the same as last year when Lloyd prepared some scripts of scenes from the works of Charles Dickens which were acted out in an impromptu style with minimal costume. It was great fun and everyone present took part. Members contributed to the food and CADS supplied a bar.
If you would like to attend this event please either comment on this blog or contact Brenda 772731 or Lloyd 02920537820 - this is important to assess number.
